Attention Rockers: THIS Is How To Age Well

A new album from Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds is always cause for celebration, but I was particularly giddy about Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!, which came out on Tuesday. I have to say, this video went a long way to stoking that excitement:

How friggin' cool is Nick Cave? And he's fifty years old! I love him for the same reasons I love Tom Waits. People who hate him insist that he never does anything different, that all his songs sound the same. People who love him find a universe of variety in his music, and the new record is no different. It starts out with the tour de force title track, the best song I've heard in months and months. He keeps along the path he began following with last year's Grinderman, but he tempers the raw sexual energy of that album with all the menace and incredible literacy of his best work with the Bad Seeds. I'm not sure if I love it as much as 2004's Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus, but regardless of its place in the Bad Seeds' canon, it's a testament to the infinite variety and beauty of the creative pursuit that a guy like Nick Cave is still creating vibrant, relevant music thirty years into his career.
